Luella Roche is an 19-year-old alternative indie/folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist making her solo debut with her EP entitled “Falling Blue.” Born in New York City and raised in Woodstock, NY.
Luella grew up enveloped by the famous Woodstock sound and surrounded by the depth of its musical history. She is greatly inspired by the music of the late sixties and early seventies combined with the influences of modern pop music, creating her unique modern folk pop sound. From an early age, Luella was embraced by Woodstock’s legendary music community, playing at the prestigious Levon Helm Studios frequently from the age of 10 years old. She has had the privilege of singing and recording with musicians including Natalie Merchant, Larry Cambpell, Gail Ann Dorsey, Amy Helm and Elizabeth Mitchell, and has performed her music multiple times at both New York and Paris Fashion Weeks. She has been featured for her musical performances in American Vogue, The Observer, W magazine and The Cut. In 2011 Luella appeared in the film Higher Ground as a principal actor and has since had the opportunity to appear in several fashion films. Luella’s greatest musical heroes include Joni Mitchell, The Cocteau Twins, Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush, The Sundays, Feist, and Phoebe Bridgers.
Growing up in Woodstock did not only influence Luella’s music, it also informed her conviction as a youth activist. She is passionate about civil and environmental justice, both of which remain at the forefront of her ongoing efforts.
Luella recently graduated after a decade of study with The Rock Academy in Woodstock.
Music has always been Luella's world, an unwavering thread in her life to lean into and to lift her up. She understands the tremendous power that you hold when you have a platform today. Her dream is to be able to use that platform for good by sharing messages and knowledge through her songs, in hopes to be there for others in the way music has always been there for her.
